About Rahul S Ravi
Rahul S Ravi, currently based in Ahmedabad, completed his Master's in Photography Design from the National Institute of Design (NID), which is internationally acclaimed as one of the foremost multi-disciplinary institutions in the field of design education and research. A literature graduate and a graphic designer by profession, he was a passionate practicing photographer before joining the course at NID. His photography is driven by a humanist eye and his documentation has a conceptual approach to it.
His photographic projects try to bring in focus socio-cultural issues that have been at times overlooked by the mass media. These very qualities in his work "Indian Jewish identity" won him the prestigious Tierney fellowship, for the year 2009. He is one amongst thirteen photographers from all over the world to have won this prestigious grant.
As a part of the course he was on a one-month long exchange to UCA, Farnham, UK, that has given him a better and deeper understanding of the contemporary photography practices in the West.
He interned with Mr.Arko Datta, photo Editor, Reuters India ltd, a stint that helped him have hands on experience on photojournalism and the intricacies in it.
